Morrison signs on at Hammonds

Wednesday 29 December, 2021

A fruitful period has continued for Hammonds Band, which has announced the signing of Alan Morrison on soprano cornet.

The legendary performer joins after a spell with City of Hull and is the latest in a series of new recruits to join the ranks at Hammonds, including Kirsty Abbotts on principal cornet.

Reflecting on his appointment, Alan commented: “I am delighted to be taking on the position of soprano cornet with the Hammonds Band, a band with a rich banding history and one that is building big for the future.

“I would like to thank all at City of Hull; despite COVID-19, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the band.”

Alan replaces longstanding soprano Robert Jagger, who has given around seven years of commitment to the organisation.

Morgan Griffiths, musical director of Hammonds Band, said: “We have been rebuilding with purpose over the past few months. Alan is a wonderful addition to the cornet section, led by Kirsty Abbotts.”

Alan Morrison’s debut on soprano cornet with Hammonds is due to be at the British Open in January.
