
Victorian State Youth welcomes composer-in-residence
The Victorian State Youth Brass Band in Australia has announced the appointment of Jared McCunnie as the band’s composer-in-residence.
The 24-year-old is a Melbourne based, freelance composer who is currently studying composition at Monash University. He specialises in larger ensemble writing, including brass band and concert band. Jared has won numerous awards including the 2019 Foden’s Band Composition Competition, the 2019 Robyn Young Award, the 2018 Kirklees Competition Award for best arrangement and the 2017 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Pizzicato Effect Composition Competition.
Megan Stapleton, president of the Victorian Bands League, said: “We are excited to have such a young and talented composer and musician as part of the Victorian State Youth Brass Band team.
“We are also pleased to be able to support young composers such as Jared.”
