Registration rules to change

Friday 3 December, 2021

Brass bands competing under the Brass Band Players Registry (BBP Registry) can look forward to three major changes to registration rules from January 2022, as the organisation attempts to help bands take to the stage with full line-ups at the Regional Championships.

Among the changes are a reduction of the time taken for a transfer to become effective, from 28 days to five days. Meanwhile, players who have transferred from another band will be able to rejoin their previous bands after a period of two months, instead of the current six months.

And a player whose registration with a band has been cancelled and who has joined another band, cannot re-join their previous band until a period of two months has elapsed, also reduced from six months.

Tim Jones, BBP registrar, commented: “The National Forum of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain recently met to discuss the Nationals contest series, but also to assess the current state of brass banding in the UK following the effect of the pandemic.

“The National Forum has suggested three changes to the BBP Registry Rules to assist bands in fielding a full complement of performers at the Regional Championships 2022 and onwards.”

The new rules are due to come into effect from January 1, 2022. The changes will apply to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain series, as well as the other events that use the BBP registration system. All registry transactions processed before January 1, 2022 will be subject to the existing rules.

The updated BBP Registry Rule Book will be produced and distributed to member bands in early January, and the updated rules will also be published on the BBP Registry website.
