Cornet star and Geneva artist, Kirsty Abbotts, has stepped down from her seat as principal cornet of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band.

The highly-respected performer recently revealed she had made the decision to move on from the Yorkshire band after 19 years, during which the partnership enjoyed a host of artistic and contesting successes.

Kirsty explained: “Since August 2002, I have had some of the most amazing banding experiences with CMFCB, made some life-long friendships and some fantastic memories and so it is with a heavy heart that I have taken the difficult decision to relinquish my position as principal cornet within the band.

“I sincerely wish Carlton Main Frickley all the very best of good fortune in the future and warmly thank everyone for the great times and so many wonderful memories.”

Kirsty added that Carlton Main’s decision to perform at the recent National Brass Band Championship, at which the band was disqualified, had no bearing on her decision.
