Siblings' delight at new cornets

Wednesday 22 September, 2021

A musical family duo from Suffolk have received a major boost after they were awarded a pair of shiny new instruments.

Siblings Archie and Ivy Pannell, of Haverhill Youth and Community Band, recently received Geneva Mentor cornets after impressing in the Phillip McCann International Slow Melody Competition.

Ivy, six, was awarded a special prize for being the youngest player to take part while older brother Archie, eight, also entered the youngest age category of the competition.

Cornet legend and Geneva artist Phillip McCann was extremely impressed with both competitors and, on Ivy, commented: “For one so young, she has an amazing talent and with a personality that just invites to listen to her playing; it’s like a musical hug.

“I wish both young players every success with their new Geneva instruments.”
