Whitburn welcomes two new signings

Tuesday 31 August, 2021

Two fresh faces have joined the ranks of Whitburn Band, following the signing of Andrew McMillan on first horn and Colin Bennie on second cornet.

Andrew, who arrives from Campbeltown Brass, is principal horn of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and will soon commence undergraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The 18-year-old is a former Scottish junior and intermediate solo champion.

Colin, meanwhile, arrives at Whitburn following lengthy involvement at Bon-Accord Silver Band in Aberdeen, with which he enjoyed several highlights including a performance at the European Brass Band Championship in Linz, Austria, and several tours.

Shortly before the COVID-enforced break, Colin helped Bon-Accord secure qualification for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

A spokesperson for Whitburn Band commented: “We're delighted that Andrew and Colin have joined us as we look forward to performing again in the coming months on the concert and contest stage.”
