Youth Brass 2000 London bound

Monday 28 June, 2021

Like bands far and wide, Youth Brass 2000 has experienced a turbulent 15 months but the organisation is looking forward to exciting times ahead as it prepares to go on tour.

The East Midlands band has been unable to meet in the usual way due to COVID restrictions but is now back in action and is looking forward to getting on its travels. Youth Brass had been due to travel to Austria but travel restrictions put paid to that. Undeterred, the band is preparing to enjoy a four-day trip to London instead.

During the trip, the band will be performing in the Royal Parks – Greenwich Park, Regent’s Park and Hyde Park – with evenings dining at the likes of Planet Hollywood and The Hard Rock Café.

Members will also attend the Lyric Theatre to see the West End musical show Six. The final day of the tour will see the band join with The British Army Brass Band at Tidworth Barracks for a marching display, workshops and masterclasses, finishing with a short joint concert which will be a fitting finale to what promises to be an exciting week of musical and social activities.

Although not strictly required for the tour, the organisation will be testing for COVID-19 before, during and afterwards, to ensure the safety of all those involved.

News of the trip will provide a major boost for Youth Brass 2000, with members having worked hard to keep up momentum during the lockdowns. When permitted, rehearsals resumed in small numbers to begin with, gradually returning to full band practices. COVID measures were adhered to throughout, with rehearsals beginning outdoors before moving to a sports hall, ensuring good ventilation, player distancing etc.

Now that it is back in action, the band will also look forward to aconcert at The Corby Cube with the GUS Band, a Proms concert at Desborough Methodist Church and its annual concert at Stamford Methodist Church, before rounding off the year with the Youth Brass In Concert Championship at the Sage, Gateshead in November.
