New Wainwright release full of festive cheer

Tuesday 1 December, 2020

The playing of cornet and trumpet superstar James Fountain has been given centre stage in a new, festive release from composer, publisher and writer Andrew Wainwright.

James (pictured above), principal trumpet of the London Philharmonic Orchestra but someone with his roots firmly in the brass band world, is featured in two pieces on a new orchestral album entitled A Joyful Noel, showcasing festive music composed or arranged by Andrew. James is a former principal cornet of the National Youth Brass Band, the GUS Band and Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

The album has embraced modern technology, with James’ solo contributions added to the digital orchestral sounds. There are 12 tracks in total, several of which were originally written for brass band but which have been given new treatments for orchestra.

Composer Edward Gregson said: “Andrew Wainwright’s new recording of Christmas arrangements and original compositions is indeed a joy to listen to. He displays both skill and originality in these tracks, and his colourful orchestrations, combined with subtle harmonies and crafted counterpoint, provide the listener with a range of aural experiences that will light up the festive season.”

More information on the album is available at Andrew Wainwright's website.
