Concord takes off after Danish National cancelled

Thursday 26 November, 2020

Like bands far and wide, Denmark-based Concord Brass Band faced great disappointment when its national contest was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the band has rallied and brought to the stage the two pieces it was due to perform at the annual event – all while adhering to the strict guidelines in place in the country.

Concord, which is the reigning Danish champion, had hoped to defend its title at the national contest, which had been due to take place recently. When the event was cancelled two weeks before the contest, it was a blow to everyone involved.

Band members wanted to show the world what they had been working on, while ensuring everyone’s continued safety. At a COVID-secure concert, the band performed set work The Essence of Time, by Peter Graham, and own choice piece Journey of the Lone Wolf by Simon Dobson.

A spokesperson for Concord Brass Band said: “One of the biggest motivational factors in Concord is to give the audience a musical experience and therefore the band members were very excited to get this opportunity, feeling that all their hard work paid off in the end.

“We wish all bands well on their continued journeys and hope they can get back to making music together safely soon.”
