Whitburn principal joins Besson roster

Monday 16 November, 2020

The Whitburn Band’s principal cornet player, Chris Bradley, has been unveiled as a Besson artist.

Chris, who has occupied the top chair at the West Lothian band for around 16 years, will officially endorse the company’s range of instruments. The news comes as the acclaimed Scottish performer prepares to release a new album of music, all recorded at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Silver Lining was produced by Chris’ son, Ryan, a talented musician in his own right.

Reflecting on his appointment, Chris told British Bandsman: “For someone of my generation, it is a huge honour to be named a Besson cornet artist.

“I’ve played these instruments for several years now and for me, they are truly world class. To be endorsing the instruments alongside the likes of Roger Webster is very special and I look forward to hopefully performing on them for many years to come.”

Chris Bradley has been associated with the Whitburn Band for 35 years and has held the position of principal cornet since 2004. He has won the Terris medal six times at the Scottish Championships, as well as many other solo prizes, including best flugelhorn at the 2013 Brass in Concert contest in Gateshead. During the 1980s and ‘90s, Chris was a regular performer with all of Scotland’s top professional orchestras, most notably the Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet.

A spokesperson for Besson said: "Chris Bradley is held in high regard in the brass band community and his cornet playing has been second to none in recent years. Like all musicians Chris has had to adapt to the recent changes, continuing to inspire and reaching new audiences with his musicality in his online videos.

"As a lifelong bandsman, it's a real privilege to welcome Chris to the Besson family. He has a variety of experience through his professional career and working in the education sector. We look forward to working with Chris in the future."
