Kirsty Abbotts joins Geneva

Friday 9 October, 2020

The Geneva Group has continued to enhance its impressive artist portfolio following the addition of cornet star Kirsty Abbotts to the roster of development and performance artists.

Arguably one of the finest players of her generation, Kirsty has won a string of solo prizes and awards during a distinguished performing career. She is a former student of Phillip McCann, who also recently became a member of the Geneva stable, and arrives following the launch of the new Heritage cornet.

Kirsty joins an impressive roster which now includes the likes of Richard Marshall, Dan Thomas, Siobhan Bates, James and Thomas Fountain and Zoe Lovatt-Cooper.

Reflecting on her new association with the instrument manufacturer, Kirsty said: “This marvellous new instrument is ideal for all musical settings; speaking for myself, it is simply perfect, particularly for melodic legato. In short, it provides everything needed for a cornet-player.”

Since 2002, Kirsty has been principal cornet of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band. She has won awards for best cornetist and best soloist at the likes of the British Open, Brass in Concert, Butlin’s, the Yorkshire Regional Championship and the English National. In 2006 Kirsty recorded her first solo CD entitled Soliloquoy and ten years later, in collaboration with Phillip McCann, A Search for Peace.
