Entries welcome for Swiss Alto Horn Festival

Saturday 5 September, 2020

Tenor horn players are being invited to get involved in the next Swiss Alto Horn Festival, which returns in 2021 with a mouth-watering array of musical talent.

The brainchild of former composer, conductor and former Swiss solo champion Julien Roh, the event is scheduled for March 27-28, 2021, and will welcome the likes of Owen Farr (pictured, above), Tim De Maeseneer, Andrea Scherrer-Matter and Ensemble de Cuivres Mélodia.

A solo competition will consist of two categories, each consisting of three rounds, with handy cash prizes on offer. First round set pieces include a choice of Aria (Philip Sparke), Bel Canto (Kenneth Downie), An Untold Story (Paul Lovatt-Cooper) and Demelza (Hugh Nash). Finalists will face Gareth Wood's Concerto for Tenor Horn (upper class) or Cornucopia, by Bram Wiggins, in the lower class.
