All-star band warming up for fundraising fun

Tuesday 5 May, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic may have brought the brass band world to a halt in its usual form but across the globe, ensembles have been embracing technology in a bid to continue reaching audiences. Now composer, journalist and former BB editor Andrew Wainwright is preparing to launch a virtual all-star brass band in aid of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, for the World Health Organisation.

Andrew said: “We have a truly world-class line-up of players signed up, representing around a dozen countries. It really is a who's who of players from around the banding world and I am delighted that so many wonderful players have agreed to take part. It's safe to say it would be nearly impossible to get this group of players altogether in one room ordinarily but due to the wonders of technology this is being made possible. I never imagined that so many of the players would agree to feature, so I'm very grateful to each of them for taking time out of their busy schedules to contribute.”

Each player is in the process of recording their parts to a specially selected piece. In the lead-up to the release of the video, there will be a daily reveal of the identity of each section of the band at Andrew's Facebook page, along with more details about the project. There will also be updates at Andrew's website.

The proceeds of the project will go towards the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, which is raising money on behalf of the United Nations Foundation to help fight the coronavirus around the world. Donate here.
