Kapitol in new appointments to music panel

Saturday 28 March, 2020

The music panel which selects test-pieces for the National Brass Band Championships has welcomed two new faces to its ranks as two existing members decided to call time upon their involvement.

Robert Childs and Sandy Smith have been appointed to the Kapitol Promotions Music Panel following the departures of Paul Holland and Michael Fowles.

Robert is a leading figure in the world of brass music, having performed and conducted at the highest level for more than three decades. Sandy, meanwhile, holds a glowing reputation as a performer, educator, composer and arranger.

Philip Morris, of Kapitol Promotions, commented: “As chairman of the panel, I would like to pay tribute to Paul Holland and Michael Fowles for their hugely skilled work in selecting the set tests for the Regional and National Finals for several years – it is not an easy task and each approached it with commitment and dedication.

"Replacing them are two highly qualified individuals in Robert Childs and Sandy Smith, with whom the panel is looking forward to working .”

The music panel meets twice-yearly to choose the test pieces for the Regional Championships and National Finals. Any composers or publishers wishing to have a work considered for selection should contact Tim Jones, music panel administrator: tim@ nationalbrassbandchampionships.com
