Dutch Open and Groningen Brass Experience cancelled

The Dutch Open Brass Band Championship and Groningen Brass Experience have been cancelled, organisers have confirmed.

Due to the measures taken by the Dutch government concerning COVID-19, the events will no longer take place. Groningen Brass Experience was due to be held from June 11-14 in De Oosterpoort Groningen, The Netherlands. The Dutch Open, which was fully booked and had been due to feature 18 bands, was part of that event.

After consultation with sponsors and partners SPOT/ Oosterpoort, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Prince Claus Conservatoire Groningen,, Yamaha, Muziekbond Groningen en Drenthe, VRIJDAG Advies en de Provinciale Brassband Groningen, it was decided to hold off with the festival until June 2021. Participating bands have been informed.

A spokesperson for the contest organiser said that it was with regret the events had to be cancelled, adding that the situation was unavoidable due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The next Dutch Open Brass Band Championship will be held on June 12, 2021 and is part of the Groningen Brass Experience festival taking place from Thursday, June 10 to Sunday, June 13.
