New principal trombone at Brighouse and Rastrick

Thursday 16 January, 2020

The Brighouse and Rastrick Band has announced the return of Ellena Newton, who will take on the principal trombone seat.

Ellena returns to the band, where she spent four years on second trombone, following a period of maternity leave.

The Royal Northern College of Music student, who receives tuition from Roger Cutts, is replacing her fiancé Ryan at Brighouse and Rastrick, as he focuses on his conducting and teaching career.

Commenting on her new position, Ellena said: “I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Brighouse and Rastrick on solo trombone.

"After an amazing four years on second trombone, it's a privilege to be taking this next step and I am excited for what the future holds.”

A spokesperson for Brighouse and Rastrick said the band was excited to be welcoming Ellena back to the bandroom. Ellena's first concert appearance will be on Saturday, January 18, in Hull City Hall.
