Foden's set for Armagh return

Thursday 16 January, 2020

Foden's Band will travel to Armagh, Northern Ireland, for the 20th year later this month as it performs at its annual gala concert, young soloists and service of celebration weekend.

Hosted and sponsored by Armagh Old Boys Silver Band, the weekend’s celebrations will include a young soloists’ rehearsal and performance in Armagh Old Boys Band Hall on Saturday, February 1, along with a gala evening concert in First Presbyterian Church, Armagh at 7.45pm.

The following morning, Foden’s will perform in a service of celebration at First Presbyterian Church, Armagh, at 11.30am.

Foden’s has recorded a CD of marches and hymns in Armagh, which have been performed during concerts over the years.

The CD can be purchased from Ivor Stevenson, with all proceeds going towards the annual brass band summer school.

The Cheshire band’s first trip took place in February 2001 and saw banding friendships established which have been strengthened through annual February gala concert weekends and Armagh Brass Band Summer School weeks in August.

A spokesman for Foden’s Band told British Bandsman: “Every year we see outstanding developments and talent in the youth performances which take place on the Saturday. It is a great opportunity for young individuals to practise and perform a solo accompanied by Foden's, with individual feedback provided by its principal players.

"The number of young folk and young at heart participating every year grows, which is very encouraging to see.”
