NYBBGB to go Farr at Easter course

Friday 10 January, 2020

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) will welcome Ray Farr and Tom Hutchinson as guest conductor and soloist respectively for its 2020 Easter course at Taunton School in Somerset.

Running from April 4-11, concert performances will take place on April 10 at the Winter Gardens Pavilion in Weston-Super-Mare and on Saturday, April 11 at the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. Both concerts begin at 7pm and tickets are available directly from the venues.

News of the 2020 course comes as extensive work continues to be undertaken by the trustees and management team of the organisation to ensure a smooth transition into a new era following the death of long-serving administrator Philip Biggs in September 2019.

Alun F Williams, interim administrator, said: "We are determined to carry on the inspirational outlook of the National Youth and National Children's Bands.

“We are therefore delighted to be able to welcome Ray Farr and Tom Hutchinson to leading roles with the NYBB this year. With a wonderful selection of music and a superb team of tutors and house staff ready to be announced soon, we are confident that we will provide talented youngsters from all parts of the UK with an outstanding musical experience.”

Commenting on his appointment as guest conductor for the NYBB Easter 2020 course, Ray Farr said: “I am honoured to be invited to conduct the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and look forward to the Easter course. Having played in the band myself as a youngster under Dr Denis Wright, I appreciate the value and inspiration that this wonderful institution brings.

“I have followed this fine organisation over the years and admired the commitment by its dedicated musical leaders and management. I am delighted to be working with the talented young musicians of the NYBBGB and aim to bring an exciting and inspiring programme of new music.”
