New horn player at Black Dyke

Sunday 22 December, 2019

Black Dyke Band has announced the appointment of Amy Paterson to the position of second horn.

A first year student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Amy hails from Campbeltown, Scotland and is the reigning Scottish intermediate solo champion. She grew up playing with Campbeltown Brass, as did former Black Dyke cornet player, Morvern Sinclair.

Nicholas Childs, director of music, said: “Following the band’s advertisement for a new horn player, we had a large number of applicants from as far afield as the USA and Hong Kong. Eight of the applicants where shortlisted, where they had the opportunity of attending a Black Dyke rehearsal. Thank you to everyone who applied."

Amy said: “I am really excited about joining such a prestigious and well-known band, and I hope I can contribute and develop as a player with the guidance of Nick Childs and the Black Dyke Band.”

Amy’s first official concert will be at Huddersfield Town Hall, where Black Dyke will have the opportunity of saying farewell to outgoing horn player Sammy Latus, who is leaving due to family commitments.
