Keenan departs Kirkintilloch Kelvin

Thursday 28 November, 2019

Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass and musical director Charles Keenan have parted ways, bringing to an end a fruitful, 12-year partnership.

The decision came following the East Dunbartonshire band's 11th place at the Scottish Open in Perth on November 23. It brings the curtain down on Charles Keenan's second spell with Kirkintilloch Kelvin, having returned to the band in 2007 after conducting at its first contests while competing in the Fourth Section in 1995.

Contest successes during Charles' second spell with the baton include victories at the Scottish Championships (First Section), Scottish Challenge Shield and Northern Counties Contest, as well as third place at the Scottish Championships (Championship Section) and further podium finishes at the Land o' Burns, Fife Brass Band Festival and Fife Charities contests.

Other highlights include performances at Fanfare, a city-wide event celebrating brass bands at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2015, competing in the Dutch Open and marking the band's 25th anniversary earlier in 2019.

A spokesperson for Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass said: “We are grateful to Chic for all he has done for KKB since returning to the band in 2007, We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

An announcement on a new conductor will be made in due course.
