Culross rejoins Grimethorpe on Principal Cornet

Thursday 3 January, 2019

Grimethorpe Colliery Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Iain Culross as its new Principal Cornet. Originally from Dundee, Iain makes a welcome return to Grimethorpe following a previous spell as Principal Cornet between 2013 and 2015 and will take up his new role in January.

Iain holds a B.A. (Hons) degree in Music as well as an M.A. in Music Performance from Salford University. He has spent the last few years travelling internationally, holding masterclasses and appearing as guest soloist with various bands, having held the Principal Cornet chair in a number of leading UK bands, including Leyland, Fairey, Sellers International, YBS and the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery earlier in his career.

A spokesperson for Grimethorpe Colliery Band said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Iain to Grimethorpe. As a player of international renown and experience he joins us at an exciting time in our future development. The band members are looking forward to working with Iain to ensure that Grimethorpe continues to build upon its unique history in artistic and performance excellence."

Iain Culross said: “I am delighted to be re-joining the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. There are no bigger and more famous names in the world of brass bands and the vision which the band have developed for their future is exciting and positive. I am thrilled to have been asked to play a part in it.”

Iain’s appointment will further strengthen the Grimethorpe cornet section with Professor Roger Webster continuing to play a role as Assistant Principal Cornet.
