New trio boosts Blidworth Welfare Band

Tuesday 13 February, 2018

Blidworth Welfare Band has been given a welcome boost in advance of the Midlands Regional Championships (Championship Section) through the signing of a trio of players bringing with them a wealth of experience of top level banding. Moving to the Nottinghamshire-based band are Keith Latham (Eb bass) who was previously with Thoresby Colliery, Steve Hill (2nd cornet) signing from Jaguar Land Rover and Simon Cheetham (2nd horn) who is making a welcome return to banding.

Musical Director Simon Oates commented: “Signing players of this calibre and experience is a welcome boost to the band as we prepare for the ‘Area’ contest. I have played at Thoresby with Keith and at JLR Band with Steve and know they are great players who will help us to put on a good performance of in Bedworth. I am also delighted that we are tempting players such as Simon Cheetham back into banding and thank Karen Cretney for moving from 2nd horn on to 2nd cornet to accommodate the move.”
