2018 Action Medical Research Youth Championships cancelled

Tuesday 12 December, 2017

Organisers of the Action Medical Research Youth Entertainment Championships have announced that the 2018 event, due to be held in Blackpool's Winter Gardens next February, has been cancelled due to lack of entries.

Contest organiser Gary Walczak told British Bandsman: "It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the decision made by Pennine Action Medical Research Committee to cancel the 2018 Action Medical Research Youth Brass Band Entertainment Championship and Junior Festival. On behalf of the committee I offer a sincere apology. The Championship had a low entry this year; however, we had made the decision in November that we would continue. Regrettably, following the latest band withdrawal towards the end of last week, we feel that to run a Championship with only five bands would compromise the atmosphere and integrity of a National Championship, and the event would certainly make a financial loss."

Gary Walczak added: "I will write to the bands further shortly, returning all entry fees in full, and outline details and plans to consult with bands as we prepare for the 2019 Championship and Festival."
