Leading UK retailer congratulates top British band at the Open

Monday 11 September, 2017

Leading brass and percussion retailer, Band Supplies, has congratulated Whitburn Band on its success at last weekend’s British Open Brass Band Championships, where it finished in second place behind the new champion, Valaisia Brass Band from Switzerland.
Whitburn’s performance under French conductor Florent Didier won many admirers on the day of the contest, with adjudicators Paul Cosh, Ray Farr and Stephen Roberts commenting that it had been a ‘very close call’ between the top two bands. Defending champion and World No. 1 Cory Band took third place, while the top English contender Brighouse and Rastrick took fourth.

Band Supplies Managing Director, Ronnie Tennant, told BB: “We would like to offer our congratulations to Whitburn Band on its fantastic performance at Symphony Hall, and for finishing as the top British band at this most prestigious event. Whitburn is a tremendously hardworking band with a fine organisation behind it, and we are very proud to have supplied it with top-quality Besson brass instruments for many years. We wish the band further success when it travels to the Royal Albert Hall in October and look forward to continuing our long and happy relationship for many years to come.”
Whitburn Band President, David Kinross, responded: “We would like to thank all those who have offered their congratulations since Saturday. It was a memorable day in the history of Whitburn Band and, hopefully, an important step on our ongoing journey. Solid foundations are important to us and our partnership with Band Supplies, which recently saw us take delivery of a new set of Besson instruments, has been an important building block in our recent success. We would like to congratulate all the prizewinners at the Open, but especially Valaisia Brass Band on its great victory. This is a seminal moment in brass band history and it is an honour for Whitburn Band to have played a notable role on such an important occasion."
