Kidlington Concert Brass to hold anniversary concert

Monday 19 June, 2017

Kidlington Concert Brass has announced details of its forthcoming anniversary concert which will give rise to a double celebration.

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Kidlington Concert Brass, formed by the merger of Oxford Concert Brass and Kidlington Silver Band in 1992 when both bands were struggling for players.

In addition, despite evidence suggesting the existence of an earlier band in the village, it is also 125 years since the original Kidlington Silver Band was formed.

Kidlington Musical Director (MD) Duncan Wilson commented to British Bandsman: “To mark the occasion we have organised an Anniversary Concert on 16 July in Exeter Hall, Kidlington (OX5 1AB) at 7.00pm. We would like to use British Bandsman to reach out to any ex-members of either band, or indeed anybody who has had connections with the organisation over the years, not only to invite them to this celebration concert but to get in touch (details below) if they have any old photographs or memorabilia we can add to a display we are putting together. We hope that enough ex-players/hangers-on will be willing to attend this free concert and bring an instrument for a massed blow at the end!”

The band will perform a concert of band favourites under Professional MD Duncan Wilson, and also welcomes ex-MD’s Catherine Underwood and Jeremy Wise to conduct some items and relay their memories of the band.

All photos, memorabilia and stories should be sent to committee member Dave Taylor who will also co-ordinate the massed blow. All those wishing to play should let Dave know to ensure that there are enough music stands and chairs available. Dave Taylor can be contacted on 07969 000746 or at
