Hendon SA Band in Clarence Adoo fundraising concert

Friday 12 May, 2017

Hendon Band of The Salvation Army is to re-join forces with top Salvationist vocalist Bobby Irvine in a reprise of the first ever Northern Highlights Festival in aid of Clarence Adoo.

The concert, Northern Highlights 2017, takes place on Saturday 10 June in Castleford, 15 years after the band and Bobby came together for the inaugural Northern Highlights in 2002.

The Hendon Band will be conducted by Dr. Stephen Cobb and the concert will also feature Castleford Salvation Army Songsters and The Salvation Army’s Territorial Commander, Commissioner Clive Adams, who will compère the evening.

Clarence Adoo was one of the country's top trumpeters before being paralysed from the shoulders down in a car accident in 1995, aged 35. As Clarence was not entitled to insurance payments following his car accident, a trust fund - the Clarence Adoo Trust - was set up to enable Clarence to purchase specialised equipment necessary for him to retain an active and independent life.

Since 2002, the annual Northern Highlights concert has raised over £26,000 for Clarence’s ongoing needs. Clarence Adoo commented: “Northern Highlights continues to be a very special date in the calendar and it has made a fantastic contribution to the trust over the years. It's exciting that Hendon Band and Bobby Irvine are coming together once again to raise money for the trust, and I am enormously grateful to them and everyone involved in the concert for giving of their time and talents in this way."

The concert, which is sponsored by SP&S and Yamaha, starts at 7.00pm and will take place at Castleford Civic Centre, Ferrybridge Road, Castleford, WF10 4JH. Tickets are £8.00 and £6.00 (concessions) and are available at or by calling 07788 994658.
