Brighouse and Rastrick Band has announced that it has taken delivery of a consignment of Besson Prestige and Sovereign instruments prior to this year’s European Brass Band Championships, which will take place in Ostend, Belgium, on the last weekend in April. The acquisition of the instruments is the result of a deal with Glasgow and Leeds-based company, Band Supplies, whose Chris Tudball lives in the town of Brighouse and is a lifelong supporter of the band.
Speaking to British Bandsman, Chris Tudball, Manager of Band Supplies’ Leeds branch, commented: “Brighouse and Rastrick recently approached us regarding their desire to upgrade their instruments to meet the current demands of top-class banding. We spoke to the band about what we could do to facilitate that prior to the ‘Europeans’, where it will be England’s sole representative this year. Having discussed the situation with Band Supplies Managing Director, Ronnie Tennant, we quickly put together a deal that has seen the band take ownership of the mixed set of Besson’s top-range Prestige and Sovereign cornets and the new Sovereign tenor horn, the package the band had identified as its absolute preference. We are delighted to be able to give B&R such a boost prior to this important event and both we and they are confident that the instruments will provide a firm platform for success at this and other contests in the months and years ahead.”
Speaking on behalf of Brighouse and Rastrick, the Band’s President Lyndon Stacey, responded: “The Brighouse and Rastrick Band is undeniably on an upward curve and we believe the unique musical qualities of the Besson Prestige and Sovereign instrument ranges make them the only ones to fall fully in line with our aspirations. Taking delivery at such short notice prior to our trip to Belgium is both a sign of our confidence in the role the quality of the instruments will play in our future, and is a tribute to the competency of our friends at Band Supplies. It has given the band a huge lift as we attempt to win the European Championships for the first time since 1998.”
Ronnie Tennant added: “Band Supplies and Brighouse and Rastrick Band have connections going back many years and we are thrilled to be able to rekindle that relationship through the provision of these Besson instruments. We look forward to many more years supporting Brighouse and the other brass bands throughout the world.”
