Iles and Mortimer medalists announced

The Worshipful Company of Musicians has announced the winners of the 2017 Iles and Mortimer Medals, the former going to respected composer Martin Ellerby for services to brass band. Teacher, conductor and cornet player Anna Hughes-Williams will receive the Mortimer Medal in recognition of her services to young brass musicians.
Martin Ellerby, who celebrated his 60th birthday this year, has written extensively for brass band, including test-pieces for the British Open, National Final and All-England Masters. He commented that he was "delighted and honoured" by the award.
Anna Hughes-Williams has enjoyed a long association with Foden's Band and has inspired recent generations of young brass musicians in the Bolton area.
The Iles and Mortimer medals are presented at the National Finals and British Open respectively.
