Matilda Lloyd to perform with Oxted Band

Wednesday 1 March, 2017

Despite the arson attack on its band hut in October, Oxted Band has kept going and has not missed an engagement or a rehearsal. Re-building work is well under way and the Surrey-based band should be back in its home by Easter. The band is pleased to announce the latest in its Stars of Brass series, to be held on Saturday 6 May (7.30pm) in St John’s Church, Hurst Green (Surrey) RH8 9EA.

A spokesman told BB: “In the latest concert, we are coming close to home and will feature trumpet soloist Matilda Lloyd as our very special guest. In 2014, Matilda won the Brass Category of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and also the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award. Following these competitions, Matilda performed as a soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra for Friday Night is Music Night on Radio 2 and with Cory Band at the European Brass Band Championships Gala Concert in Perth. Matilda has appeared many times on television (BBC 4 and BBC South East) and on  BBC Radio 2, including an appearance on the Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show. She briefly played with the Oxted Band, sitting as co-principal cornet, before her star ascended to the stratosphere! We are in for a great night, with a young, local soloist who is rapidly making a name for herself as a soloist around the world.”

Tickets priced at £10 for adults (children £5) can be purchased from White’s Estate Agents in Oxted, or on the door. Refreshments will be available in the interval.
