US Open Champion finalises British Isles tour plans

Tuesday 11 October, 2016

The Dublin Silver Band (DSB) will have an intense week of touring before competing at the Brass in Concert Championship, the world’s premier brass band entertainment contest this November. DSB was invented to compete as a result of winning the 2015 US Open Brass Band Championships.

Dublin

The band will fly from Ohio to Dublin, Ireland to perform in a joint concert with the Dublin Concert Band. The Dublin Concert band is the 2016 Irish National Band Champions and has won that contest 11 of the past 12 years. The concert will be at 8pm on 16 November at Church of St. George and St. Thomas.

Merseyside

The band will then ferry over to Liverpool, where it will give a joint concert with St. Helen’s Youth Brass Band at 7:30pm on 17 November at The United Reformed Church in Ormskirk Street. DSB is looking forward to renewing friendships with St. Helen’s, which toured Ohio back in 2010.

Bowburn

The band will also be reacquainting itself with the town of Bowburn on Friday 18 November. In 2008, DSB (then the Ohio Brass Band) carried Bowburn’s banner at the Durham Miner’s Gala. The 2008 performances marked only the second, third and fourth performances for the new group. Ferryhill Town Band will be performing in a concert at 7:30pm and DSB will perform a few songs at the conclusion of the concert.

Newcastle

The Dublin Silver Band’s final performance before the competition will be as part of the Brass in Concert Festival as they perform at 11.00am at the Northern Rock Foundation Hall on Saturday 19 November.

Commenting on behalf of the band, Pat Herak commented: “Dublin Silver Band is thankful for the opportunity to travel across the pond and perform with so many fantastic groups. We would like to specifically thank the US Open Brass Band Championships, Brass in Concert Championships, Dublin Concert Band, St. Helen’s Youth Brass Band, and Bowburn Banner Group.”
