6. Jugend Brass Band Oberer Sempachersee (Manuel Imhof)

A more mature sounding band than we’ve heard so far. The first movement develops very nicely indeed - a journey! Big sounds in the middle movement but possibly just too much at times. Bags of energy in the final movement too. A real contender!

5. mgrr Junior Band (Matthias Kieffer)

A nicely presented opening movement - Pine Clad Hills - and the sound is well balanced throughout. Nice work by the cornets in the middle section (bravo the young repiano player!) and all other soloists are excellent. More sonorous playing in the final movement and the rousing end is as good as we’ve heard so far today.

4. Entlebucher Jugend Brass Band (Mario J. Schubiger)

Bags of energy in the opening movement from yet another fine young band here in Switzerland. Nice work too by the young lady on principal cornet in Silvern Voices. Tempo and style just right in the final movement too - another good show overall.

3. Jugend Brass Band RML (Ivan Estermann)

Another fine effort from this young band. One or two moments of poorer intonation but it’s well led musically and there is plenty of talent around the band to build upon. Rounded off with a well-measured final movement.

2. Hinterlander Jugend Brass Band (Luca Frischknecht)

A nicely-balanced band sound underpins a lovely performance from the young players, with the Irish-Canadian folk tune Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary’s given just the right treatment. The balance between the sections in the final movement was a joy to behold on a Sunday morning! Fabulous playing all round!

1. Musikgesellschaft Brunisried (Manfred Schaller)

An excellent opener to what promises to be an exciting day’s banding here in Montreux. David Chaulk’s engaging work, perfectly pitched at 4th Division level, offers the bands a platform to display their skills in all departments. Some lovely delicate playing from Brunisried, with a special mention to the super flugel and soprano players. Terrific energy, too, at the end of the final movement - Where Once They Stood We Stand. A very nice performance.
