Mr and Mrs Mead celebrate Love's Joy!

Thursday 8 June, 2017

Love’s Joy, is the first duet CD from husband and wife euphonium virtuosi Misa and Steven Mead, and it has just been released by Bocchino Music.

Steve is, of course, well-known to all lovers of brass music, and since his marriage to Misa in March 2014, the couple have spent much of their time giving joint performances around the world. Steve commented: “For the last three years Misa and I have performed in many concerts together, and usually at the end of the event people have been asking for a duet CD. Finally, we are able to meet the demand! The repertoire is very mixed, but all very easy on the ear, with more than half of the works either composed for arranged for or by us.”

Included on the CD are Liebesfreud (Love’s Joy) (Kreisler), Two Fauré Duets (arr. Steven Mead), Carmen Fantasy (Bizet arr. Luc Vertommen/Misa Mead), Devil’s Waltz (Steven Verhelst), Life for Love, Love for Life (Franz Cibulka), Cousins (Herbert L. Clarke arr. Ray Cramer), Two-Part Invention (Philip Sparke), Till Death Do Us Part (Terrence Wong), In a Twinkle Memory (Hidenori Arai), Three Songs (Mendelssohn arr. Misa Mead), Batipopo Duo (Xavier Denis), A New Day Suite (Cibulka), Gypsy Earrings (Ardeshir Farah arr. Ryan McGeorge), The Seal Lullaby (Eric Whitacre arr. Stephen Bulla).

Steve continued: “Making the CD was a lot of fun and we were very fortunate to be able to be accompanied by the brilliant pianist Benjamin Powell. We were also joined by two RNCM alumni, Alistair Simpson (bass guitar) and Lewis Knight (drums) for one track. Recording engineer extraordinaire Richard Scott again worked his magic, and Misa and I couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

The pair have several concerts planned during the summer, including a short tour of China. Later in the year they will undertake back-to-back tours of the USA (two weeks) and Japan (ten days).
