Born in 1970, he is one of the most prolific musical talents to emerge from Sweden in later years. After studying French horn, piano and conducting in Örebro, Malmö with Sigfrid Naumann, Stockholm with Stig Westerberg and Helsinki with Jorma Panula, the career started when he was appointed to represent Sweden in the Scandinavian Conducting Contest in 1996. After the debut with the newly established Uppsala Sinfonietta in 1999, Herbert Blomstedt helped Niclas to launch an international career which resulted in international tours in the USA and South America.
Niclas Blixt has created a broad and eclectic repertoire for himself in a wide range of styles. He is equally at home on the concert podium as well as in the opera house. Niclas Blixt is devoted to Swedish composers and has made several international premieres with works of Fernström, Alfvén and Crusell. Besides a busy schedule in Sweden with conducting and teaching on the agenda, he is guest conducting on a regular basis.
