Morten Hansen began his musical career as a cornet player at the age of ten with the local school band.
He was a founding member of Stavanger Brass Band in 1982. He played with Stavanger for seven years, and was the band's principal cornet for three of these years.
As a young player, he enjoyed his years as member of both the Norwegian National Youth Wind and the National Youth Brass Band.
He studied at the Music Conservatoire in Stavanger for his music teacher degree and had further studies in Band Conducting at the Music Conservatoire in Bergen.
Morten has been conducting bands since 1983 and has had a very successful career in Norwegian banding, winning several major titles with his bands.
He has been resident conductor for Stavanger Brass Band, and was for many years musical director of the Alexander Brass Band. He has also enjoyed working with other leading Norwegian bands such as Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag and Krohnengen Brass Band. He has been a frequent adjudicator in contests since 1986.
In the UK, Morten has been working with the Welsh Seindorf Beaumaris Band, Bon-Accord Silver Band and with Mount Charles Band.
Morten is as well the musical adviser for the Grenland International Brass Festival, witch takes place in Skien late April every year.
