Black Dyke to feature in Brass in Concert opener
April 01 2009
Brass in Concert organisers, Paul and Jackie Beere, have announced a massive boost for the 2009 Brass in Concert Festival. As plans come together for the event, the organisers have secured the services of Black Dyke Band to top the bill of the World of Brass in Concert gala opener.
In a change to the previously established format, which featured two bands, Paul Beere was delighted to confirm that three will feature this year, with a first half shared between reigning champion, Cory Band, and the US Open Champion, Fountain City Brass. The second half of the concert will be entirely given by Black Dyke Band, with its galaxy of solo stars, conducted by Music Director, Dr. Nicholas Childs. Speaking to British Bandsman, Paul Beere stated his delight at having secured the services of the Queensbury band, commenting: "We all know what a massive draw Black Dyke is and it has a terrific following in the north-east of England, which we expect to be out in full force. We've been in discussion with the band over a possible appearance for a couple of years, and its agreement is another tremendous boost for an event which seems to strengthen each year."
